A graveside burial is the most formal and final act of committing a body to its final resting place.
The graveside burial will usually be preceded by a short service either in a Church or chapel within the burial ground, and afterwards mourners walk in procession to the prepared grave.
There is a short committal ceremony at the graveside with mourners, appropriate to the occasion, before the coffin is lowered into the ground by pallbearers. Mourners are invited to scatter soil on the coffin in a symbolic act, and to leave flowers at the graveside.
